By universal consent, the number of the male children of the Intercessor on the Day of the Resurrection (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) amounted to three, namely al-Qasim, ‘Abdullah, and Ibrahim.

Al-Qasim was born by Hazrat Khadijah (radiyallahu ‘anha) in Makkah before the mission (AD 610). He lived only two years, and then hastened to the eternal world.

‘Abdullah, who was surnamed “the agreeable,” was born of Khadijah after the mission, and died in infancy.

Ibrahim was the son of Mariah the Coptess, and was born in Madinah in the eighth year of Hijrah [AD 629-320]. On the seventh day after his birth the Holy Rasul (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) slaughtered a sheep to celebrate his ‘Aqiqah, got his head shaved, and distributed as alms a sum of gold equal in weight to his hair. According to a certain tradition, Umm Sayf, the wife of Abu Sayf the blacksmith, was appointed to nurse Ibrahim, who lived almost one year and a half, and died in the tenth year of Hijrah [AD 631-32]. After his death, Ibrahim was washed by his nurse, but according to another tradition, al-Fazl bin al-‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anh) performed that duty. ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Awuf (radiyallahu ‘anh) poured water on his corpse, and his lordship the seat of Nubuwwah was present at the ablution. In the Rauza-tul-Ahbab, it is, however, stated that, according to the most correct tradition, the Holy Nabi (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim) prayed over his body, and sat at the end of his grave until he was interred. Al-Fazl bin al-‘Abbas and Usamah bin Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) entered the sepulchre, and when they had finisehd the burial, they arranged the surface of the grave and poured water over it; and the first grave in Islam over which water was poured was that of Hazrat Ibrahim; but the knowledge is with Allah, whom we adore.
