Fasting Six Days of Shawwal After Ramadan: ‘Like Fasting The Entire Year’
Sayyidinaa Ayyub (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu) relates that the Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa sallim) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days from Shawwal it is as if they fasted the entire year.” [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah; Ahmad transmitted it from Jabir, Muntaqa]
Sayyidinaa Thawban (Radhi Allahu ‘anhu) relates that the Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa sallim) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan, and then six days after Eid, it is [like fasting] an entire year. Whoever does a good deed shall have ten times its reward.” [Ibn Majah, Muntaqa]
1. Based on this, the majority of the fuqaha, including the Hanafi, Shafi`i, and Hanbali school, have held that it is recommended to fast six days of the month of Shawwal. [Radd al-Muhtar; Mughni al-Muhtaj Shah al-Minhaj; Kashshaf al-Qina`]
2. It is permitted to fast these six days separately throughout the month, or consecutively, after Eid al-Fitr. [ibid.]
3. It is prohibitively disliked (makruh tahriman) and sinful to fast on Eid day itself. [Radd al-Muhtar]
4. The Shafi`is and Hanbalis state that it is superior to make the six fasts consecutive [Minhaj, Ghayat al-Muntaha]. Khatib al-Shirbini explains the reasoning as being, “In order to hasten to do the good, and because of the problems inevitable in delaying,” such as becoming lazy and not actually fulfilling this sunna in the end, though he points out that the sunna is fulfilled by both consecutive and non-consecutive fasting of six days in Shawwal. [Mughni al-Muhtaj] The later Hanafi scholars differed as to which is better, fasting the six days consecutively or non-consecutively, though neither is disliked and both fulfill the sunna. [Radd al-Muhtar] However, it would be agreed that those who fear not fulfilling the recommendation due to laziness, forgetfulness or other excuses, should hasten to fast the six days consecutively immediately after Eid al-Fitr.
5. The reward is akin to having fasted obligatory fasts the entire year days, according to Buhuti, Shirbini, and others.

Tuesday, 04 Dzulhijjah 1432 | HAJJ | – THE GREATER PILGRIMAGE

Extracted From Anwaar al-Hadith, Chapter 7, Pages 263 to 274 by Hadrat Allama Mufti Jalal al-Din Qadiri al-Amjadi English Translation: Mawlana Kalim al-Qadiri [Bolton - U.K.]
Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas Radhi Allahu Ta ‘ala Anhumma reported that the Messenger of Allah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim has stated,
“‘O People! Allah has made Hajj incumbent upon you.’ Hadrat Aqra’ ibn Habis stood up and inquired, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Is it incumbent each year?’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘If I say ‘yes’ then it would be made obligatory and incumbent upon you each year, and if it was to be made incumbent each year you would not be able to fulfill this religious duty. Thus, Hajj is only once in the lifetime and those who exceed this (do more than once) then the (extra) is nafl (optional).’” [Mishkat, Kitab al-Manasik, Page 221]
From this we understand that the Holy Prophet has full power, control and authority on Shari’ah and Sacred Islamic Laws. If the Messenger of Allah desired, he could have made Hajj obligatory and incumbent each year. For a detailed treatise on this topic please read: Muniyyat al-Labib Anna al-Tashri’a biyad al-Habib (1311AH) by Imam Ahmed Rida Khan.
Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas Radhi Allahu Ta ‘ala Anhumma reported that the Messenger of Allah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim said,
من أراد الحج فليعجل
“He who intends to perform hajj should hasten to do so.” [Sunan Darimi, Vol. 2, Page 27]
Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim said,
تابعوا بين الحج والعمرة فإنهما ينفيان الفقر والذنوب كما ينفي الكير خبث الحديد والذهب والفضة وليس للحجة المبرورة ثواب إلا الجنة
“Make the Hajj and the Umrah follow each other closely, (wear the Ihram for Qiran, in which the intention of Hajj and ‘Umrah is done or perform both the Hajj and ‘Umrah consecutively) for they remove poverty and sins as a furnace removes impurities from iron, gold and silver; and Hajj which is accepted, its reward is Paradise.” [Sunan Tirmidhi, Abwab al-Hajj, Vol. 1, Page 167]
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim said,
من خرج حاجا أو معتمرا أو غازيا ثم مات في طريقه كتب الله له أجر الغازي والحاج والمعتمر
“Anyone who went out (of his house) with the intention of performing Hajj, ‘Umrah or fighting in the Path of Allah, and then passed away as he was on his way, then Allah the Most Exalted shall forever write for him the reward of a Haji, one who performs ‘Umrah and a mujahid.” [Mishkaat, Kitab al-Manasik, Page 223]

Blessings of the Month of Ramadhaan al-Kareem

1. Sayyidinaa Abu Hurairah Radhi Allahu ‘anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah [Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim] has said, “When Ramadan begins, the doors of heaven are opened.” A version has, “the doors of Paradise are opened and the doors of Hell are closed, and the Satans are tied with chains.” Another version has, “the doors of Mercy are opened.” [Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Page 255 and Sahih al-Muslim, Vol 1, Page 346] Sayyidinaa Shaykh ‘Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi comments:
The meaning of the “Doors of heaven” being opened is the continuous descending of mercy, and the ascension of good deeds to the Court of the Almighty without any obstacle (preventing it from ascending). It also means the acceptance of (permissible) supplications. The meaning of the “doors of Paradise” being opened is being encouraged and granted the ability to perform good deeds, and the acceptance of these good deeds. The meaning of the “doors of Hell” being closed is the protection of the souls of those who fast, from things which have been forbidden by the Islamic Law, and rescue from the things which provoke a person on doing bad deeds. It also means to break the desire which the heart has of things of lust. The meaning of Satan being tied with chains is the sealing off of all the ways by which evil whispers enter the mind. [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at]
2. Sayyidinaa Abu Hurairah Radhi Allahu ‘anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah [Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim] has said, “Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward (from Allah) all his past sins will be forgiven. Whoever prays during the night in Ramadan with faith seeking his reward (from Allah) all his past sins will be forgiven. And whoever passes Lailat-ul-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward (from Allah the Most Exalted) all his past sins will be forgiven.” [Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Page 255 and Sahih al-Muslim, Vol 1, Page 259]

Sunday, 29 Sya'ban 1432 Avoiding The Moon Sighting Fitnah
by following the Sunnah of Physically Sighting the Moon in ones’ locale.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Wa salll Allahu ta 'ala 'alaa Sayyidinaa wa Mawlaana Muhammadin
wa 'alaa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa sallim
The Bid'ah of relying on "global moon sightings" and relying on astronomical calculations to perform ibaadah was not something practiced during the time of Sayyidinaa Rasuli Akram ( صلى الله عليه وسلم) or the Noble Companions Radhwan Allahu ta 'ala 'alaihim ajma'een. The Sunnah of actually sighting the moon locally and relying on that sighting is the established method of ascertaining the beginning of any Islamic month. This is all the more important when it comes to communal ibaadah such as fasting Ramadhan, Eidayn and Hajj. Concerning the obligation of sighting the moon locally and not relying on sightings from others towns [let alone other countries thousands of miles away]:
Sayyidina Kurayb narrates that Sayyida Umm al-Fadl sent him to Sayyidinaa Mu‘āwiyah in Sham for something. Sayyidina Kurayb says, "I went to Sham and finished the job. I was in Sham when the month of Ramadān began and we saw the moon the night of Friday. When I reached Madinah at the end of the blessed month, Sayyidina Ibn ‘Abbas asked me about Sham. (After answering him) He then asked me when we saw the moon. I said, 'We saw the moon the night of Jumu‘ah.' He asked, 'Did you see it as well?' I said, 'Yes, I saw it too and many others saw it and we all kept fasting and so did Mu‘āwiyah (that is according to that moonsighting).'
Sayyidina Ibn ‘Abbas said, 'But we saw the moon on Saturday night, therefore, we will keep fasting for thirty days according to that unless we sight the moon on the 29th.' I asked, 'You don’t think the moonsighting of Sayyidina Mu‘āwiyah and his fasting is enough for you?' Sayyidina Ibn ‘Abbas replied, 'No, this is how the Blessed Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) taught us.'" (Muslim H.1819, Tirmiðī H.629, Nasa'i H.2084, Abū-Dāwūd H.1985, Musnad Ahmad H.2653 Dar-qutni H.2234)
Sayyidinaa ibn-e-‘Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim has said, “Do not commence fasting (Ramadan) till you see the new moon, and do not cease fasting (perform Eid) till you see it. But if the weather is cloudy, or there is a smog in the sky(which prevents sighting of the moon), then complete 30 days of the month.” [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Page 256]

Saturday, 23 Rajab 1432 The Issue of Halaal Meat
by
Muhammad Jamaal ad-Din Abdul-Wahid
A prevalent corruption within the Muslim community regarding halaal (lawful) meat has successfully evolved into serious confusion and widespread “controversy.” The result of such wickedness is the belief that the following three errant justifications are legitimate:
- Just because the meat is not pork, it is halaal.
- The meat of the Ahl-al-Kitab (People of the Book) is halaal, regardless of how it was slaughtered or what the actual meat is.
- If there is a possibility the food may be haraam (forbidden), saying “Bismillah” (In the Name of Allah) over it is permissible, thereby making it halaal. (Included in this one is the silly suggestion of doing dhikr over the meat or doing countless dhikrs before its consumption.)
These three assumptions are deceptively propagated to Muslims who are either new to Al-Islam or uneducated concerning their Deen. The intent of this article is to expose and correct the fallacies cited above.
